If you want to slow down the aging process, and we all do, then - DANCE!

If you get a group of women ‘of a certain age’ together, and men, chances are the conversation will be about the aging process. Nobody wants to look old. As we age, most of us hate our gray hair, our wrinkles, and our sagging bodies.

There are three schools of thought. Moisturise and have plastic surgery, except you are going to age at some point anyway. Make peace with aging and embrace your age, which is probably the most sensible. And the third, which is make peace with who you are AND dance dance dance.

There are also many ways to slow down the clock and these include healthy eating, regular exercise for the body and the mind, and in particular dance. If you read scientific journals, in particular, the Frontiers in Human Neuroscience, physical exercise comes up as the top way to not just halt signs of aging, but to reverse them. And dance is one of the best forms of physical exercise there is.

So why is dancing so good, you may ask? Well, it works the body and the mind. And while all forms of physical exercise are good for you, dance in particular works on balance which means it also works your brain. According to studies done in the German Center for Neurodegenerative Disease, dancing changes the way the brain responds. Tests were done with over 60 healthy but elderly (between the age of 65 and 80) volunteers. They all participated in an exercise in various forms but those who danced really had results.

Dancing stimulates the right hippocampus of the brain, combating age-related brain disease. It may not remove wrinkles but it definitely makes your skin shine, your eyes glow and puts a spring in your step. Plus, it makes you feel great and improves brain activity.

What more could you want? Dance!
