There is too much plastic in the world and this beer company has taken action in the smartest of ways

People are slowly becoming aware of how toxic plastic is and how much plastic we throw away every day. Most of the plastic we throw out lands up in the oceans, killing our marine life. Seabirds, turtles, fish, dolphins, and whales are all ingesting plastic which is not only killing them, it is killing you too. We eat them, ish that has eaten the plastic.

We can all do our bit to minimise plastic. Use recyclable bags instead of plastic bags, say no to plastic straws and plastic coffee cups and always recycle. And take a great example from the Saltwater Brewery in Delray, Florida, who have made the most fabulous six pack holder for beer. Its a six pack holder that is 100% edible and if it lands in the ocean, marine life will not be harmed if they eat it.

The six pack rings - and if you think about it, they have always been made of plastic in the past - are created from the by-products in the beer making process. Theyre made of barley and wheat and safe for both humans and fish to eat. They also biodegrade and are compostable. The six pack holders are strong and resilient and are as efficient as plastic packaging, just not damaging or toxic.

More large companies need to become aware of the dangers of plastic. Every little bit counts and we really have reached crisis point, worldwide, with pollution and plastic. There are many who believe the damage that humans have caused may be irreversible but it is not too late to change things. Say no to plastic straws, plastic bags and in fact, any kind of plastic. The Saltwater Brewery is a fantastic example of how we can be innovative and we can be gentler on the environment. If they can do it, you can do it too.
