There may be no such thing as internet gaming addiction.
Most common idea in the society is that Gaming Addiction is a disorder. To everyone’s amusement, a research conducted participating nearly thousand gamers for six months suggests it is not identified as a disorder.
It says addiction for gaming would reflect the weak mentality of the gamer. It is said, the person’s unhappiness regarding his life, his carriers and achievements cause him to be severely addicted to gaming.
To put it simply it is due their dissatisfaction with their lives. Research manuals of mental disorders have been in the idea that, addiction for gaming is a severe disorder that needs future experiments and researches.
They have listed out several characteristics that an addicted person would show. Some of them include that, the person plays games by wasting his time, neglecting his main responsibilities in daily life, and using game playing to relieve his stress.
Netta Weistein, the scientist who conducted the study was expecting the aforementioned behaviour from these game players .She has concluded in her study that none of the participants have a clinical history.
Her final idea was that people get addicted to games not because they are having a disorder of addiction, but because they feel less happy about themselves. In addition it was found out that they might have lower needs fulfilment that cause them to spend more time on gaming.
What they concluded with their study is that excessive gaming of a person does not mean that he has some kind of a disorder, because it is just an act of displacement he uses. As the clinical psychologist Kimberly Young suggests the best recovery for these gamers is to divert their attention to another productive activity other than gaming. In addition it has been revealed that the aforementioned research method like questionnaires would lead to wrong judgement on people and their conditions.
