David Lynch made a disturbing Web Sitcom called 'Rabbits': It's now used by Psychologists to induce a sense of Existential Crisis in Research Subjects

David Lynch was famous for directing Twin Peaks and coming up with the many whacky concepts of the cult TV series.  He’s known as a director and creative artist who goes to places that nobody else goes to, often haunting, bizarre places but also intense, real, probable places.

You can probably still see images from Twin Peaks, and also from his 2006 Inland Empire.  Rabbits was a television show that he made, which was incredibly ‘Lynchian', in its bizarreness.  Characters were ordinary, domestic and a little grey.  But they all wore rabbit heads which were expressionless.   If one was to explore Rabbits further, it could be all about existential crises and how to deal with the mundanity of life.

Psychologists use Lynch in their studies of the human mind.  They use Rabbits in particular to gauge the reaction of their patients, to see if it induces their own kind of existential crisis.

Lynch movies are not always haunting, but they can be.  He doesn’t do the traditional horror movie, rather he uses music, sounds, shadows and expressions.  His movies are not fast paced and insane American style movies; rather they are slow, so slow that you need to think for a minute about ‘what just happened there.’

Rabbits was first launched on Lynch’s own website and then as a sitcom but as a web series. When asked what it means, Lynch’s team said:-

"It is not merely parody or satire; it exists as perhaps the most bizarre and arguably literal sitcom imaginable, though still an opposing force that challenges and defamiliarises basic concepts." 

Rabbits is supposed to make you think and question your own existence.  And it seems that director David Lynch is constantly questioning his.
