Our Planet is so Fucked that some Women are choosing not to have Kids

The world is a mess. There are wars, political discourse and social uprising.  These things are not new and in fact, the world has been filled with instability for time gone by. But one thing that is new is Climate Change.  And Climate Change is one of the most real reasons for women choosing not to have children.

We are all becoming more aware of the environment and of our carbon footprint.  We are aware that our every movement is causing damage.  We are depleting the plant of its natural resources.  Studies have shown that every child who is born adds 9441 metric tons of carbon to the atmosphere.  That is a lot of carbon and that figure came from a  study done in 2008.  It is ten years later which means the carbon footprint of each child or adult is a lot higher.

Much is being done to reduce our carbon footprints.  We are trying to use renewable energy.  We are aware of not using plastic, of recycling everything we can, of not wasting paper, fuel, or water.  But, our lifestyles are hard to change.  And the more people who are on the planet, the more damage we do.

it is for this reason that some women are choosing not to have children.  It’s a huge sacrifice to make.  The world is in a dismal state and there are groups such as ‘Conceivable Future’ who are driving the ‘no children’ trend.  They are a non profit organisation who are bringing awareness to the threat of climate change.  Not only is climate change irreversible, but having a child is irreversible too.  Conceivable Future are not about telling women what to do but they are about brining awareness to women, and men, about the environment and how we should be looking after it differently.
