How to recognise a quarter life crisis, and how to deal with it.

We all know about mid life crises but what about a quarter life crisis? They are totally real and while they are not as well documented as mid life crises, they do need to be dealt with.

A quarter life crisis is something that happens between your mid twenties and thirties. If you suddenly find yourself feeling anxious, unsettled, unsure and questioning all your life choices, you are probably having a quarter life crisis. It is not a terrible thing, it means you can look at your life, examine your lifestyle and question your choices.

You might be extremely successful and have a good career, but perhaps you are questioning your career. You’re doing well, but do you want to do this for the rest of your life? It is not a bad idea to get a little help, chat to a councillor or to friends, perhaps even to your boss. It’s absolutely fine to question your decisions and while you shouldn't make any rash decisions, you can take another look at what you are doing. If you think you’re doing the wrong thing, it’s not too late to change.

A quarter life crisis can also encourage you to make changes and to take yourself out of your comfort zone. While it is not nice feeling anxious or depressed, maybe you will be spurred on to travel, study or do something, anything, that is different. A quarter life crisis may also force you to finally do the things you’ve been putting off - exercise, take up yoga, do a bit of voluntary work.
It is absolutely fine and normal to start questioning things. The worst thing to do is to ignore the questions and to pretend that everything is fine. If you are unhappy, it is up to you to change it. Don’t wait until it is too late.
