Analysis: If you’re rich, you’re more lucky than smart. And there’s math to prove it

Do you think people get rich by being smart? Apparently the answer is no!  Apparently people who are rich have more good luck than anything else.  And studies have shown this to be true.

Apparently luck is a strong determinant of success.  It’s all about being in the right place in the right time and it’s all about making use of opportunities, or seeing the opportunities as they arise.  To be honest, you have to be pretty smart to see opportunity, so I think intelligence does come into the picture, but - maybe it’s emotional intelligence.

The idea that luck comes over intelligence is not just a myth.  It’s apparently been confirmed by physicists  who have conducted research.  Alessandro Pluchino and Andrea Rapisarda, together with economist A. E. Biondo, say they have done the studies and looked at the stats and have all the proof that is needed.

To be successful you do have to have smart ideas and smart business plans.  But mostly, because there are a lot to smart business ideas out there, you have to hope for the best, cross your fingers for good luck, hope you talk to the right people, have the right connections and have the communication skills as well.  Communicating, and it doesn't have to be in a  bright intelligent way, can be the difference too between success and failure.  If you can talk to an investor well, you may win him over.  It could be your personality that has you succeeding, rather than your brains.

Success is due, not solely, to personal qualities.  Talent, drive, personality, skills, effort, who you know and what you know, and also intelligence are all major factors in success.  But, the bottom line according to scientists and physicists, are the external forces.  And those external forces are about timing and luck.

Poor people are rarely lucky. The wealthy are lucky.  And that is about timing, about connections, about what you already have.  It’s much easier to be successful if you are wealthy.
