15,000 scientists from 184 countries are warning Humankind we are Screwed.

Climate change is real and the world is in deep trouble.  Over 15 thousand scientists from 184 countries have warned of a looming catastrophe, all caused by human behaviour.  Humans have been responsible for carbon emissions, deforestation, contaminated water, and species extinction and we are responsible for the almost unavoidable looming catastrophe.

We need to change our behaviour, and we need to change it quickly, if we are to avoid disaster.

Jane Goodall, E.O. Wilson, and James Hansen are among those who have cosigned the ‘World Scientists Warning to Humanity: A Second Notice,’ which is an article published in the journal BioScience. There’s are just two of the 15,372 scientist signatories.  The article focus on how human impact on the environment has put the globe at serious risk.

Over the last twenty years, our carbon emissions have increased by 62%.  Our available drinking water has reduced by a quarter. 75% of our oceans are now dead zones. And we have lost more than 300 million acres of forest.

We are basically killing off our air, water, animals, insets and land. WE are polluting the air with carbon emissions, we are killing off animals with carbon emissions, we are killing our fish with carbon emissions, pollution and plastic, and slowly, we are going to be killing our people too.  We have too many people and it is impossible to sustain everyone. 

It’s  not all bad news.  The hole in the ozone layer is healing and this is through our use of renewable energy and from banning ozone-damaging chemicals.  While climate change is real, we are becoming more aware of the things we need to do to halt climate change and slowly we are starting to use renewable energy, less plastic and to recycle.  There may be hope but it takes work, effort and awareness by all.
