Germany has proposed a free public transportation inorder to lower the amount of nitrogen oxides in cities.

20 major German cities have already surpassed the EU Limits for nitrogen oxide pollution levels.

The Federal Administrative Court in Leipzig is expected to deliver a verdict in this issue on February 22.

“We are considering public transport free of charge in order to reduce the number of private cars,” the environment minister, Barbara Hendricks, wrote to EU environment commissioner Karmenu Vella in a letter.

“Effectively fighting air pollution without any further unnecessary delays is of the highest priority for Germany,” the ministers added.
