391-Year-Old Bonsai Tree Planted In 1625 Has Survived Hiroshima And Keeps On Growing

The bonsai tree which was planted in 1625 is currently 391-years-old. The impressive thing about this tree is that it survived the atomic bomb attack on Hiroshima.


The Yamaki family who had this tree lived just two miles away from the spot where the American forces dropped the atomic bomb, which killed an estimated 140,000 people.

Surprisingly, the Yamaki family also survived the blast.

In 1976, Bonsai master Masaru Yamaki gifted the tree to the United States. The tree is currently housed in the U.S. National Arboretum in Washington, D.C.
