LSD may have been responsible for The Beatles’s hit album, REVOLVER.

The Beatles changed the course of pop music. When they came on to the scene they were a pretty clean cut group of guys but the truth is, the guys did a lot of drugs. It was the sixties after all, and the sixties was when LSD was the definite substance of choice.

The story goes that John Lennon and his wife Cynthia were out for dinner with George and his wife Pattie Boyd. At the end of dinner their host, John Riley, added a few sugar cubes to their coffee. of course the sugar cubes were not just sugar cubes - they had LSD in them.

John Lennon was not happy at ‘being duped.’ He had apparently never taken LSD before, for the sole reason that he knew about the drug and how it worked. He did not want to hallucinate, see in colours or hear things that were not necessarily there. But - the LSD worked. Lennon and Harrison had their ‘inner creativity’ unleashed, although not in a good way. They both found themselves feeing anxious and a little hysterical. And then, those feelings subsided and the beauty game. Gorgeous colours, heightened senses and a sense of well being. It was apparently terrifying and brilliant all at the same time.



And they wrote all the amazing music and lyrics from Revolver. Revolver was released in August of 1966 and it was clear they had a masterpiece on their hands. If you google some of the song lyrics now, you can see it was clear they were on psychedelic drugs. Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds - LSD. Yellow Submarine - hallucinogenics!

Revolver is one of the top selling albums of all times, as were The Beatles. LSD is an illegal substance and today the dangers of psychedelics are well documented. But some pretty good music did come out of it!
