Photographer Captures Incredibly Rare Shot Of Sperm Whales Sleeping
Snapping photos of the sperm whales sleeping can be a rare shot. Swiss photographer Franco Banfi and his team of scuba drivers were following a pack of sperm whales in the Caribbean Sea, near Dominica Island, when they encountered a sudden unusual scene. The whales suddenly stopped moving and went into a synchronized vertical rest.
A team of biologist from the UK and Japan reported of such behavior earlier and were the first to document this in 2008.
The team of researchers found out from their study that this collective nap occurs for approximately 7 percent of the whale’s life, in short intervals of just 6-24 minutes.
